As mentioned in the previous lesson, ABRSM removed the need for hand written music in grades 1-5 theory, with their new online assessments and hence the need to draw a nice treble clef. However if you wish to be able to do so, or indeed are taking a Trinity College exam the following instructions will be useful.

Start around the 2nd line from the bottom and loop around clockwise so that your clef just touches the middle and bottom line. Then slant up to the top looping over just above the top of the stave. Bring an almost vertical line down the middle to finish just below the bottom of the stave.



The names of the notes in the spaces of the treble clef can easily be remembered using the word FACE



The names of the notes on the lines of the treble clef can likewise be remembered using the phrase "Every green bus drives fast"



The drawing of a bass clef is somewhat easier than the treble clef. 
The curve is tighter at the top than the bottom. The two dots after the bass clef must be in the top two spaces of the stave.

The names of the notes in the spaces of the bass clef can easily be remembered using the phrase "All Cows Eat Grass"

The names of the notes on the lines of the bass clef can likewise be remembered using the phrase "Grizzly Bears Don't Fear Anything"
